Access guide

We work through the access your platforms already offer, granted to one address: [email protected]. You stay the owner of every account, and you can remove us at any time from the same screen.

Never send us a password, and never share your own login. If anyone claiming to be us asks for one, it is not us.

What your plan needs

Google Business Profile: add us as a Manager

  1. Sign in to the Google account that owns your Business Profile, then open your profile on Google Search or Maps.
  2. Select More, then Business Profile settings, then People and access.
  3. At the top left, select Add.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Under Access, choose Manager.
  6. Select Invite.

A Manager can do almost everything an owner can, but cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.

Checked against Google Business Profile Help. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Google Search Console: add us as a Full user

For plans that make changes. The Roadmap Audit asks for the read-only role below.

  1. Open your property in Google Search Console.
  2. Go to Settings, then Users and permissions.
  3. Click Add user.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Choose Full as the permission.
  6. Save.

A Full user can see all the data and take some actions, such as submitting a sitemap, but cannot add or remove owners or users.

Checked against Search Console Help. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Google Search Console: add us as a Restricted user

For the Roadmap Audit, which reads your data and changes nothing.

  1. Open your property in Google Search Console.
  2. Go to Settings, then Users and permissions.
  3. Click Add user.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Choose Restricted as the permission.
  6. Save.

Google describes a Restricted user as having simple view rights on most data. An audit only reads your data, and Google advises giving an auditor read access to Search Console, not write access.

Checked against Search Console Help, Google Search Central. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Google Analytics 4: add us as an Editor

For plans that make changes. The Roadmap Audit asks for the read-only role below.

  1. In Google Analytics, open Admin.
  2. Under Property, open Access management.
  3. Click the plus button, then Add users.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Choose the Editor role.
  6. Click Add.

Grant access on the property, not the whole account, so we only see the site we work on.

Checked against Analytics Help. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Google Analytics 4: add us as a Viewer

For the Roadmap Audit, which reads your data and changes nothing.

  1. In Google Analytics, open Admin.
  2. Under Property, open Access management.
  3. Click the plus button, then Add users.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Choose the Viewer role.
  6. Click Add.

Google says a Viewer can see settings and data, while control of the property's settings belongs to an Editor. Grant it on the property, not the whole account, so we only see the site we audit.

Google Tag Manager: add us with Publish permission

  1. In Google Tag Manager, click Admin.
  2. In the Container column, click User Management.
  3. Click the add button, then Add users.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Under Container permissions, choose Publish.
  6. Click Invite.

Publish lets us create and publish container versions. Every change to your live site still waits for your approval, as our How we work page says.

Your website

Most sites we work on run on WordPress or Shopify. If yours runs on something else, email us and we will send the steps for it.

WordPress: add us as a user

  1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard as an administrator.
  2. Go to Users, then Add New User. On older versions the menu item is called Add New.
  3. Username: nightshiftdirect. Email: [email protected].
  4. Role: Administrator, so we can fix settings and plugins. If you only want content changes from us, choose Editor.
  5. Choose to email the new user about the account, so we set our own password and you never share one.
  6. Click Add New User.

Checked against WordPress documentation. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Shopify: accept our collaborator request

  1. We send a collaborator request from our Shopify Partner account to your store.
  2. If your store asks for a collaborator request code: in Shopify admin go to Settings, then Users, then Security, click the 4-digit code to copy it, and email it to us.
  3. When our request arrives, go to Settings, then Users, and click the Requests status to see open requests.
  4. Open our request, review the roles it asks for, change any you want to, and accept it.

Cloudflare: invite us as a Domain Administrator for your domain

This is the role for work on your domain's settings, such as redirect and caching rules that live in Cloudflare. For a website we build, use the website build roles below.

  1. Sign in to the Cloudflare dashboard and select your account.
  2. Go to Manage Account, then Members.
  3. Select Invite.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. Set the scope to your website's domain, and choose the Domain Administrator role.
  6. Select Continue to summary, check the details, then select Invite.

Inviting members needs the Super Administrator role on your account. Domain Administrator gives full access to that one domain, including its redirect and caching rules, and read-only access to the firewall, Access and Workers settings of your account. It cannot create a website on Cloudflare Pages, so a website we build needs the roles in the next section instead.

Cloudflare, for a website build: invite us with the Workers Platform Admin role on your account and the Domain DNS role on your domain

  1. Sign in to the Cloudflare dashboard and select your account.
  2. Go to Manage Account, then Members.
  3. Select Invite.
  4. Enter [email protected].
  5. For the first policy, set the scope to All domains, which is how Cloudflare scopes a role to your whole account, and choose the Workers Platform Admin role.
  6. Add a second policy: set the scope to your website's domain, and choose the Domain DNS role.
  7. Select Continue to summary, check the details, then select Invite.
  8. If the invite screen only takes one policy, send the invite with the first, then open our member record, select Edit, add the second policy, select Continue to summary, and select Update.

Inviting members needs the Super Administrator role on your account. Each policy has a single scope, which is why there are two. Workers Platform Admin is the role Cloudflare documents for creating and deploying the Pages project your site runs on. It also gives edit access to the other developer products in your account, such as Workers, KV and R2, and to zones and page rules. Cloudflare is renaming it, so a newer screen may call it Admin at the Developer Platform scope. Domain DNS lets us edit the DNS records of that one domain, so it can point at the new site. For the site to answer at your main domain, the domain has to be on Cloudflare in the same account; if it is not yet, the written scope says so before you approve anything.

  1. Email us your Google Ads customer ID. We send a link request from our manager account.
  2. In Google Ads, open Admin, then Access and security.
  3. Open the Managers tab.
  4. Under Link request, click Accept.

You keep your billing, and every budget change needs your approval. We only ask for this if we manage ads for you.

Checked against Google Ads Help. Menus move; if a step does not match what you see, email us and we will walk you through it.

Removing our access

Use the same screen you used to add us, and remove [email protected]. When a plan ends, our handover file lists every account to check.
